The greatest sports hero we have had is Joe West, who was selected for the Irish Team in the marathon at the Olympics Games in Helsinki in 1952.

Joe West pictured above right was the well known Carrigaline athlete who represented Ireland in the marathon event at the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952. The event was won by the famous Czech athlete, Emil Zatopech.
