Ballea Castle Built in the 1500s by the McCarthy clan of Cloghroe Ballea Castle is the oldest habitable building in Carrigaline. Situated on steep, wooded cliffs overlooking the Owenabue River as it courses under Ballea Bridge, the Castle is owner to several myths and ledgends. A painting of the famous 'White Horse' can be seen clearly on the cliffs underneath the castle from viewpoints on the Ballea Road. See our History section for more historical data.
