Heron Sculpture

To commemorate the Millennium the Carrigaline & District Lions Club, under the presidency of Kieran Barry commissioned Carrigaline artist Peadar Drinan to produce a sculpture for the main roundabout. The theme chosen was that graceful bird often seen around the Owenabue Estuary - The Grey Heron. One year later the 17ft. stainless steel sculpture was erected and unveiled by Minister Micheal Martin. The piece was sponsored jointly by Cork County Council, Martin O' Callaghan, Astra Construction, Barry Collins and George Cronin of Carbon Chemicals It has been dubbed various titles such as 'The Stork from Cork' and 'The Chick on the Stick'.
